Intro to cob: from start to finish

Are you new to cob and want a quick, yet intensive introduction? Well, in this intro to Cob class we’ll explore the ancient art of natural building in its many different forms!  Each participant will be mixing clay, sand, straw, and water in different ratios to create cob, rammed earth, adobe, wattle and daub, light clay straw insulation, and earthen plaster finish. You’ll learn how to listen to your mix and create a relationship with these mediums in their several different forms. Creating a foundation of understanding for you to further your conversation with the “Mud”.

Earthen sculpting class

Does sculpting with mud sound like a dirty hand good time to you? Well, in this Earthen sculpting class you will be introduced to the core ingredients of earthen plaster (clay, sand, fiber, and water) and we will go over how to mix them together to get a great sculptable cob/plaster for sculpting.  We’ll cover the tools, techniques, and textures used in artistic earthen sculpting while encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and creative freedom for participants.  


Cob fairy house building

Have you been wanting to build a magical fairy house? In this cob fairyhouse building class you will learn different magical techniques for using cob to build a fairy house!  We will learn how to mix the sand, clay, straw, and water in a way that is good for building walls, as well as a rough plaster for smoothing out the walls.  & also the creative freedom to customize your structures with fairy furniture, decorations, and whatever else your wildest imagination can come up with.

Have you ever wondered how to make your own paint out of the earth?  Well come join us as we turn rocks into paint!  We will go over the process that it takes to turn rocks into clay paint, and the different substrates that you can apply it on. You will get to mix your own clay paint, and you will be provided a canvas to practice on that you can take home with you.
